This year marks Canada’s 150th anniversary, and there’s a lot of talk about bringing to light the truth about how colonists treated the Indigenous People of this land; the genocides, the residential schools, and the broken treaties. We were never taught about these things in school, and it’s time Canada started owning up to its crimes. We killed them, pushed them off to reserves where we won’t have to deal with them, and we forced them to live in squalid and unsafe conditions completely unacceptable for a developed nation like Canada. We broke all our promises to them. This injustice will not stand.
